Het trimmen van een Golden Retriever |

Step 4 |
||
| Next we start with the nails cutting, trimming paws, pasterns and hocks | ||
Now we need the nail-cutters and the flashlight.![]() Flashlight you can only use if the doggie has NOT black nails. We lay the doggie on his side on the floor and put one leg on your own leg, put the flashlight on and right under a nail and look very good. If you look good you can see the end of the living toe, is pink coloured, the part at the top of the toe will be a bit transparent and not shining pink at all, this part you can cut off. This need some practice, so be carefull not to cut in the living part of the nail. If you cut this it will bleed terrible and causes the dog a lot of pain, which may well be remembered the next time you try to do this job. If the nail is dark-coloured you even have to be more carefull. ![]() Better to cut each week a bit, then trying to do it at once. ![]() If you have finished cutting all the nails we are going futher with the trimming. We start behind with the hocks of the two hindlegs. We use the thinning-scissors. Comb the hair from the hock to the foot against natural growing, and remove the hair that is standingoutside(in Scandinavia, this hair is frequently left on and accentuated by brushing and fluffing it ourwards, so giving the dog the appearance of having thicker legs than he actually has). Don't remove it all but only the excess hair from hock to foot. don't forget trimm and then comb. For the pastern, I cut straight up the edge of the pastern to the stopper pad to neaten the ragged fur. |
||
We start now with the foot. First pull the long
hair between the toes above and carefull trimm it away with the
thinning-scissors(remember to check this area regularly and trimm off any offending
tufts).Trim away the excess fur around the pads using the straigh-edged scissors, remember a Golden Retriever has to have catlike feet, so try to trimm them that way. And last but not least, I brush the feathering away from the forelegs and trim the very ends of this with the straight-edged scissors, leaving it long near the body and shorter at the top of the pastern. And does your Golden Retriever look like this one?
Maybe some more training, don't expect that you can trimm like a professional after the first time, the more you practice the better the result is. Next step the finishing touch!! |
